The Big 5

It's hard to believe but it's true...Isaac is officially 5. We're pretty sure he is taller, faster, perhaps a bit smarter and dare we say, even more handsome now that he is 5!

 

 

All About the Ask

Looking back over the last few years I have been unable to find a picture of Santa and Isaac where they both looked happy! But this year, I'm proud to say, they both look pretty comfortable with each other! Ike was excited to sit on Santa's lap and was VERY polite! Santa even told him he had a nice green hat, Ike never missed a beat and said thank you. Later as we were leaving Ike was grinning ear to ear and said Santa was silly for saying his hat was green.

He was also pretty confident with the ask. With a clear, strong voice he proclaimed he wanted soccer stuff. Mr. & Mrs. Santa said they'd see what they could do. Fingers are crossed!

Watch out bad guys...

Superman is out there and here to protect! And yes, once again, the superhero Halloween theme continues! At least the boy knows what he likes! 

 

One Wild Time

I might just be a terrible mom! I'm not sure that we made it to the Zoo more than twice this summer! But I'm hoping this last trip makes up for it a bit. Our adventure started off pretty normally. Saying hello to the usual work friends, seeing the usual sights, posing for the usual pictures and then...

 

We decided to stop in and say hello to our special Zookeeper friend, Jody! Next thing we knew we were feeding a rhino (or at least throwing bananas in Klyde's general direction), feeding Cinda and hippos, saying hello to the brow-antlered deer, warthogs and playing with the tigers! (Note: playing with the tigers means they were on one side of the mesh and we had a peacock feather for them to chase!) It was a whirlwind tour! 

I've been waiting to take Ike on this adventure for so long and wasn't quite sure he was ready for it. But I guess that's why you have good friends like Jody to just make it happen and then momma didn't have to worry or make the decision to try it!  The good news is that once he got the hang of feeding Cinda, he was on board! He still tried to stay as far back as he could and was almost out of her reach, but he fed her nonetheless! From there he was excited to see who he got to feed/meet next! So much fun!

This picture really has nothing to do with our visit to the Zoo, other than it was taken at the Zoo in my office. It was too cute not to document in every place available!

Gardens or Bust!

Isaac loved Garden of the Gods. He was pretty much a professional mountain climber by the time we got to the second parking lot. From that point on, anywhere we went he asked if we would be doing any climbing. Thankfully his version did not include ropes and death defying climbing. I'm pretty sure that will be on the next visit to Colorado. He's already asking when can we go back!

We took the Cog Railroad to the top of Pike's Peak. That was a fun way to get to the top. I can remember as a kid going up in the car and being a little bit nervous about the travel conditions. So this was a nice steady climb with no hairpin turns and only a slight perception of the climb and decent. When we got to the top it was just as I remembered - cold and wet. But there were still great views, despite the clouds.

Feeding the giraffe was supposed to be the highlight of the trip to the Zoo. Little did we know, Ike preferred the smaller friends to the tall ones. I'm pretty sure we could have spent the entire afternoon in this room trying to feed our new feathered friends!

This is about as brave as we got with the giraffes. Feed the "baby" and only by placing it where it might be able to pick up the lettuce with it's tongue. Not to worry, Dad and I were both brave and may or may not gotten giraffe slobber on us!

One cool attraction they have at the Zoo is a ski lift type ride. Ike was a little worried at first that there were no seat belts, but then figured out that the bar would keep him in the seat. This mom isn't going to complain that he was being safety minded. I wonder how long that will last?

Isaac also got to meet a 9-month-old wallaroo. I believe it's name was Bindh, but you'll have to ask Ike to make sure I've got the story right!
